submit to ‘the colored critic’

the colored critic is an accessible platform for the critique and analysis of Black theatre. each month, the colored critic will feature a critique, review or analysis of a Black dramatic work by a community contributor.

this platform prioritizes and encourages the sustained involvement of Black voices in theatre. we believe that dramatic criticism sparks conversations and dialogue that push the art form of theatre forward.


what we’re looking for:

critiques, reviews & analyses of dramatic works.

how we choose:

the colored critic and its contributors should use accessible language that appeals to a wide range of readers, not just those in academia. we are looking for pieces that consider Black dramatic works, meaning theatre that involves Black playwrights, actors, technical designers, producers and directors.

how to submit:

email theblackdramaschool@gmail.com with ‘the colored critic submission’ and the month you are submitting for in the subject line. please attach your essay as a pdf. to be considered for the month ahead, your submission must be received by the 14th of the current month.

if you are selected, we will email you with next steps. you are welcome to submit as many times as you’d like.
